They came for a long-awaited visit and arrived Thursday afternoon. We had dinner here Thursday evening— salmon soufflee, coq au vin, boiled potatoes, zucchini, and frozen caramel mouse for dessert. Jon and Joy came over to visit with everyone after dinner (see entry, Jon and Joy May 2, 1974). Kay and Frank slept in our bed, Cathy and I slept in the living room, Betty and Jack in the guest room, Ben with Kay and Frank, Katie in Cathy's work room. Friday morning, we all had breakfast together— fresh orange juice, bacon, fried eggs, banana bread (Cathy made it from Alison Beall's mother's recipe), tea and coffee. On Friday, Kay and Frank watched Katie. Cathy, and Betty and Jack went to Fourcade Droll and shopping. Ben and I went to the Museum of Natural History and the Empire State Building (the weather was bad). Friday night, we went to the Mandarin Inn for dinner and brought dessert home from Farraras (all in Manhattan). Neil (see entry, Neil May 3rd, 1994) came over when we got home to visit with Kay and Frank etc. The overnight visitors left Saturday morning at about 10:30 a.m. Kay brought me a beautiful Chinese medallion butter dish for a present. Then we went to the Frick to see the Gabriel de Saint-Aubin exhibition. We got to Knoedler before Billy. We had arranged to meet him there. We then all went to see Catherine's newly framed drawing, "Split" . Following that, we went out to lunch nearby before heading to the Museum of Modern Art to see Martin Puryear's show (it was the second time for us) and to see the Seurat drawing show. The museum was very crowded. Me and Cathy dropped Billy off at the Edward Thorpe Gallery on the way to Lennon Weinberg to see Jill Moser's exhibition. We met Billy back at Edward Thorpe's. He was thinking about buying a Judth Linhares painting from Thorpe. The three of us went to Bottini's for a light dinner. On the way home, we took Billy to the theater. He had a new show opening that Monday, entitled "Make me a Song". Because Catherine had to be at Yale in New Haven, we couldn't go to the opening. He was helping us in various ways to get ready for our 50th wedding anniversary party on the 18th. Some evenings he went back to New Jersey to work for Uber, but usually he came back to sleep here except for one night I can't remember which one. He is going to Boston to meet with Benjamin Keddy and the other two sound people who are working on the sound for Ben Busch's film, The Forest. Ben Keddy is writing the music. He got to our house in the afternoon of the 12th and left at about 5 the next morning. We went out to dinner and to the South Hills Mall to see Zodiac. he spent part of Sunday in Boston and then went to NYC to buy a new computer (his last one, and Tracy's were stolin out of their temporary aprtment in Big Rapids, MI. Nothing was backed up so this made the loss huge - this is a long story - probably never to be told in Visitors). He missed B & H (the store in NYC) by fifteen minutes. Then off to College Park Maryland to try and finish fixing up that house so it could be sold (another long story). The day sfter that he went to Baltimore for his last day of filming on the HBO series - The Wire - more related to that in a moment. After filming he headed upstate to Albany to take down an exhibition of his photgraphs and was to bring them to Colgate. On route we got a call from him as he was paaing Poughkeepsie on the Taconic. Whe he is done at Colgate he is going to Sherburne, Ny to see if everything is OK at his parent's house and to deal with his brother Nick. then he drives back up to Michigan to spend a few days with Tracy and Alexandra before leaving for Africa to start filming, Generation Kill, a new HBO erioes about the Iraq war. He will have to be in Africa for 17 weeks of the 27 week shooting schedule. She answered it once and none was there. It turned out to be Benjamin Busch. He was calling to see if this was a good night to come by on his way from New York City to Sherborn NY. After dinner at the Academy, when Cathy and I were driving home, he finally got through to us. So, we arranged for him to let himself in when he got here, and that we'd see him in the morning. He probably got to our house around 1 AM. In the morning, when I got up at 7, I tried not to wake him, but that didn't work. The three of us had breakfast and visited. A little after 10, Charlie (Smith) came to work and took Cathy directly to the doctor for her B12 shot. Charlie and Cathy got back around 12 and the four of us had lunch. When we were done with lunch, Simon (Tosky) came to work (see next 2 entries). After Ben saw what I was up to in the studio and what Cathy had done, he left to head north.
