It was also Jim Palmers birthday. But he didn't want it to be advertised as such. It poured. So an outdoor party didn't work out so well. It has been raining consistently in June. Purcell and Jim have an artists residency program at their home, Catwalk in Catskill, New York. They have been working with the Chicago Art Institute for about five years (they used to live in Chicago) and have recently decided to work with Vassar College. Purcell went to Vassar. We didn't have any refreshments and not that many people showed up. And they didn't stay long. I decided to have refreshments this year and sent out an announcement that referred to the gathering as a reception. The attendance was many times greater, people stayed longer, and from what I could tell, people had a better time. For one thing having beverages on such a hot day was important.
