The opening for the general public was supposed to be at 3 p.m. I got there early because I figured parking would be a problem. I got a spot pretty quickly, Although the walk to the point where the official walkway started was a bit far, I arrived at the walkway a bit after 2 p.m. There was an event at 2:00, which consisted of groups of people representing many towns in the Hudson Valley. They walked as groups across the bridge. Participants from towns on the east side of the river started walking west from that side. And the west side groups walked east from their side of the river. They passed each other in the middle of the bridge. When they got to the end they walked back in the other direction. I just walked into the procession unquestioned and walked sometimes with one group and sometimes with another. There were also Marching bands, police brigades, pipers, cub scouts, etc. I saw people I knew well and people I knew slightly, as well as many people I didn't know.
