<text>Tony Shore, has asked Catherine to come to MICA for a couple of years. Tony was a student of Catherine's at Yale at least 20 years ago. So Catherine finally did say yes, and so the time came, and we headed to Baltimore on a Sunday. It took forever to get there, much longer than we had expected. We arrived late afternoon at the Revival Hotel. The MICA people set up the reservation. We had thought if we got to Baltimore early enough, we'd go to the art museum. That didn't happen. We had dinner in our rooms and rested for the evening. Catherine had to be at the Brown Center auditorium at about 11:15 am for a technical check. Her talk was at noon. Ben Busch, who was in College Park, MD working on the house that he and Tracy used to live in, attended the talk. The talk went exceedingly well. We had lunch (pictured in this entry) in a place on campus. Following lunch, Catherine did critiques with a number of students-- many more than she had planned. After the critiques, she conducted a discussion and question session with some students and faculty. I planned to go to the Baltimore Museum of Art. But I didn't think of it, and no one who I told I was going thought of it either. So when I finally remembered and arrived at the museum, it was closed-- not entirely a surprise, considering most museums I know of are closed on Mondays. I spent the rest of the time writing the first draft of a proposal for an exhibition to give to Elena Sisto. She had asked me for something in writing for a show she is working on for me. More about this later on, if it happens. If, not then this is the last you'll hear of it. See the previous entry and the following entry.</text>

<text>We had dinner with Tom Nozkowski, Joyce Robins, and Judy Linn for Tom's Birthday. Tom treated everybody. Right after dinner, we followed Tom and Joyce in our car because they wanted to show us something. We went to Applestone Meat Co. It was really something- a bit like the old Horn and Hardart Automats with glass doors that you can open when you have put money in a slot. Applestone's is open 24 hours a day. I am not sure of the exact story, but it goes roughly like this. Fleishers Grass-Fed Butcher was in Rhinebeck at some point and closed some time ago. They were also in Kingston, I think, after Rhinebeck. It was owned and run by a couple. Kingston also closed. Then they opened Applestone in Stone Ridge. Somewhere in all of this, the couple separated. I think the wife may have been the person who ran the Stone Ridge store. And her husband opened a store in Brooklyn. I think I remember that his father or grandfather had a butcher shop. When the store was in Rhinebeck, we went to it from time to time. I cannot vouch for this narrative, but some of it is correct. Postscript: Tom called to tell us that someone from Butterfield called him because I had left my glasses there. Judy Linn picked them up and gave them to me at the Vassar Student Majors' Critique on March 27th.</text>

<text>I sat next to Shane at the recent fundraiser for The Barrett Art Center on March 3, 2019 (five entries before this one). Shane and I had run into each other periodically at Vassar. Bryce Daniel, a student in his documentary film class, made a short film about me (see the Bryce Daniel entry from October 14, 2016). I had met Shane's wife, Xinran, briefly on campus. Cathy and I decided that it would be nice to meet Elena and David for dinner since we hadn't seen them for a while, and also invite Shane to see if he and Xinran would like to attend with the four of us. It seemed like a good group of people. So we all met for dinner at Mercato, which turned out to be a good fit. I think everyone had a good time. Lots for everyone to talk about.nI had forgotten my camera, and the conditions for photographing with my phone weren't great. So I wound up taking some quite poor photographs. But combined as GIF, they turned out reasonably. Shane's email from later that evening mentioned that Francesco Butoni, the chef-owner of Mercato, was on the "Beat Bobby Flay" television cooking show last week. Bobby Flay won because the judges thought Francesco's seafood d'Avalos was under seasoned. Catherine had that dish, and although the seafood was perfectly cooked, the dish was under seasoned. n----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------nnThe following are Shane and David's email messages to me...nnShane Omar Slattery-QuintanillanSun, Mar 17, 11:23 PM (16 hours ago)nto me, elena_sisto, david, XinrannnThanks Harry for the dinner invitation and thank you all for a lovely evening in Red Hook. I don't have Cathy's email so please let her know I'd love to reconnect her to Amitava, who is deep in his own drawing/painting practice right now and would love some more friends and mentors to advise him.nnA pleasure meeting you Elena and David -- please keep in touch. Xinran is heading off soon to Art Basel Hong Kong and won't be back until April, but I'll be around nursing my torn ACL and wrapping up the semester if anyone wants to get another meal or drink. nnTake care & keep in touch,nShane nnDavid KirkpatricknTue, Mar 19, 2:50 PM (19 hours ago)nto Elena, Xinran, Shane, mennThanks for the note, Shane-nnIt was a wonderful evening and thanks to Harry and Cathy for arranging it. nnI hope Xinran (and maybe you?) can come to Techonomy NYC on May 14-15. <text>Peter Charlap invited Sophia Narrett to be a Claflin speaker at Vassar College. He arranged dinner at Mole Mole. For the past years, we have been having large dinners of around 20 people after the artist lectures. Peter went to a dinner recently, which was much smaller and he thought it was better. So he told the students that the first five who signed up could come to dinner. Three students signed up. One of the students at dinner mentioned that some of the other students thought it was too much trouble to go to the building where the sign-up sheet was located. Because the signup was located in the same building where their studios are, this was a bit troubling to hear. I also felt that it indicated that some of the students who attended previous dinners were not enthusiastic enough to make any effort beyond simply showing up. Despite my feelings about all of this, the smaller dinner was more enjoyable and allowed everyone to take part in the conversations and at least hear what other people were saying. Sophia gave a good, well-prepared lecture.</text>

I was going to see "Zentrified!", a group show at Thomas Park Gallery. Christina Tenaglia was in the show. The gallery opened at 1:00 pm. I got a parking spot opposite the front door. I arrived too early. So the gallery was not open yet. I went off to find someplace to eat lunch. I went to the Gentleman Farmer, a restaurant I had never been to before. I had Wagyu Beef Tongue, gnocchi, celery green, truffle reduction. It was quite tasty. I got back to Thomas Park at 1:20 pm. The show was very good. I got back in the car and headed uptown. I realized I was already more North than the two-person show Gary Stephan was having, and I didn't think I had enough time to get to Rizzoli's for the conversation and book signing. I got a parking space, practically opposite Rizzoli's. Getting two spots right where you need them in one day in NYC is an event in itself. I had invited Thomas Demand to speak at Vassar, which he couldn't do this spring semester because his wife was due to give birth with a couple of weeks. One of his dealers, Karina Daskalov, suggested he might be able to come next fall. She told me about the book signing and suggested that I come to the event and could meet her and Thomas Demand there. I introduced myself to Thomas, and he told me that Karina probably had to leave to catch a plane. So, I planned to call her the following week. I got food in NY to bring home for dinner. Catherine (Murphy) stayed home to paint. The light was right, and she had wet paint makes (which made the next transition in her painting easier to do). See the previous entry.</text>

See the following entry.</text>

<text>We planned the day around getting to the opening at The Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation: "Doing What Comes Naturally, Seven Painters in Their Prime." Our close friend, Joyce Robins, was one of the seven painters. The other people in the show were Riley Brewster, Denzil Hurley, John Obuck, Nathlie Provosty, Rebecca Purdum, and Andrew Spence. Robert Storr curated the show. We got to Chelsea in the morning and saw the Dana Schutz show, the James Siena shows, and a couple of others. We had lunch at Bottino's. We were hoping to have time to go to Dawn Clements' memorial service at Pierogis before getting to Joyce's opening. When we stopped by Pierogis, the memorial service had already started, and the gallery was jammed with chairs that were jammed with people. So we headed straight to Joyce's show. <text>Vibha Nagrath Dhingran3/27/2019nnVibha Nagrath Dhingra, age 74, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Winchester, passed away on March 27, 2019. nVibha was born in her grandfather Lala Ralya Ram Nagrath‘s home on Keeling Road, New Delhi, India on September 21, 1944. Despite losing her mother, Jasmati Devi Nagrath, when she was only six month’s old and her father Inderjit Nagrath, when she was only four, Vibha had a happy childhood in her grandfather’s house. She and her older sister Abha, were lovingly raised by their younger brother Ranjit Nagrath’s mother Savitri Devi Nagrath and were lucky to have the love and care of a large extended family including their grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. nnVibha attended boarding school in the foothills of the Himalayas from the age of four. She completed her elementary, secondary, and collegiate studies at the Sacred Heart Convent School in Dalhousie. Her lifelong love of nature and her indelible connection to the mountains began there. nnIn 1966, at the age of 22, she married Satish Dhingra and they moved, first to Canada, and then to the United States. While Satish pursued his master’s degree, Vibha got her green card and her first job, as a clerk in the computer lab at MIT. nnVibha and Satish welcomed their first son, Anand in 1969 and their second son, Vivek in 1976 and just six months later, Vibha became a citizen of the United States. After living in Cambridge and Belmont, they settled in Winchester, MA in 1978. When they separated in 1980, Vibha became a single mother. After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, Vibha worked tirelessly to support her sons. She never remarried, singular in her focus on her children and her desire to maintain her independence. In 1983 Vibha completed her MBA from Suffolk University. nnDespite their divorce in 1986, Vibha maintained a cordial relationship with her ex-husband, until his death in November 2017. After a successful career in corporate accounting, Vibha retired in 2009 and moved to Nashua, NH. She spent the last year at Apple Valley Center in Ayer, MA where she made many friends among the staff and residents. nnVibha loved animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed international travel and learning about history</text>

<text>Ethel’s mantra, shared with her siblings, was “keep moving”—and that she did. Whether it was working, folk dancing, knitting or swimming, Ethel always kept moving during her life time. And what a long life time it was—two weeks shy of 108 years. Apart from early family gatherings, my first memory was of my aunt Ethel sending me magazines at summer camp. Later in life, books of all subjects, from various programs at Marymount, found their way to me. Then there was the knitting. Lots of favorite sweaters were knitted by Aunt Ethel. More recently, with Janet’s help and encouragement, baby hats and scarves galore were shared with many.nWhen I hurt my back at age 30 in New York, and could barely get out of bed--Ethel came to the rescue and cooked some meals for me. We were able to return the cooking favor when Ethel visited Beth and me in D.C. She loved the home-made waffles -- made on my parents’ old waffle maker. Whenever we talked about her visits, she mentioned the waffles and the bonsai collection at the Arboretum—another favorite.. nThen there was the “sister act” between Ethel and Shirley. We learned that you are never too old to argue about who dad loved best! And who would have thought that Ethel would have become the fashionista these past few years—certainly not Shirley! Thank you Josie! nEthel was a doer, not a complainer. However, she did complain when Janet insisted she write a will at age 99! She had hoped not to have to deal with such issues—and she sure beat all odds at doing so!nEthel will be missed. 11/7/18nnWritten by Robin (Sherman?) Sylvia Plimack Mangold's cousin</text>
