We arrived around lunchtime and Patti served us lunch (homemade pizza, broccoli raab with prosciutto). We visited, and Stephen took me on a tour of the Ox Bow School. In the evening, Patti made dinner for everyone. For the first course, we had crab salad on endive leaves. For the main, we had West coast halibut, root vegetables, and a raita sauce, consisting of yogurt, dill, cilantro, and ginger (which was amazing). Daniel, Catherine, and I spent the night. In the morning, Daniel left early to go to Marta's (Renzi) sister's house. Patti made us a lovely breakfast of poached eggs. After breakfast, we left for San Francisco. Noisy enough that someone we knew at the next table surmised (by some of the things we were saying) that we were artists and that there was a connection to PAFA. So, she started talking to us, and we were talking to her, and it turned out to be Karyn Olivier, who had come to Vassar as a visiting artist about ten years ago. Both Catherine and I were very taken with her work and her talk at that time. So, we were all excited to see each other. She didn't know Didier or Kelly before then. But she was really pleased to meet them. Coincidentally, it was Lisa Collins (a colleague at Vassar) who had suggested that we invite Karen to come speak.
