A get-together for Billy's Birthday.]]>
We saw Barbara Paige and Judy Dollenmeyer on January 11th at Catherine's (Murphy) opening in NYC. We haven't gotten together for dinner for quite some time. We run into Barbara and Judy regularly in Adam's Fairacre Farms. We always talk about going out but don't seem to get around to it. So finally we did. Before dinner, we went to Upstate films to see "Faces Places," a new film by Agnes Varda. Then we headed to Market Street for dinner. The food has generally been good at Market Place, but Barbara, Judy, and I had gnocchi with veal ragu. The gnocchi was pretty good, but the meat was inedibly salty. See the previous entry.]]>
Catherine and I were taken out to dinner with some faculty members following our visit to the museum at UC Davis. See the following entry.]]>

We had arranged to meet Suzanne and Gary for dinner. They are closing up their house in the country and will be moving back to the city. We don't get to see them very often when they leave the Hudson Valley. Il Cenàcolo is usually a terrific restaurant. It seemed somewhat off this time, the truffle pasta, though good was a bit overcooked and somewhat stuck together, Gary and Suzanne seemed to like it, but then they never had it before. The langoustines were excellent. I ordered sweetbreads and had to send them back. I gave Suzanne a taste, and she agreed with me that they were very tough and seemed overcooked. After talking to the waitress, who was quite nice, that it was either or a combination of the purveyor and not being trimmed correctly, and the cooking was an issue as well. The snow peas that came with all the dishes were hard to eat because the strings hadn't been removed. Cathy and I thought that because it was a Sunday, and possibly that the regular chef was not there, this might explain the problems. Although I assumed I had been there on some other Sunday, we hadn't been there for quite some time and will come back at some point. Hopefully, the issue is not because the restaurant is not as good as it used to be. I did order Red Snapper to replace the sweetbreads, and it was quite good.]]>
We met for dinner at Palace Dumpling in Poughkeepsie. As always company and food was excellent. ]]>

I had shown Xavier my slides and he expressed an interest in seeing my work. They wanted to see Cathy's (Catherine Murphy) new painting. They are her dealers. Xavier and Donald arrived at about 9 a.m. and we all had breakfast — fresh orange juice, mustard eggs and a German coffee cake, that I made. Jutta Anse gave us the recipe. She had once made it for us, and tea. Jon also had breakfast with us (see next entry). I had to teach, so they drove me to Port Authority on their way back.]]>

Donald is one of Cathy's (Catherine Murphy) dealer's at Fourcade Droll. He came over for dinner. We had scallops au natural, veal prince orloff, zucchini, broiled cherry tomatoes, green salad, orange bavarian cream. He looked at Cathy's new paintings, which he liked, and at my work. He suggested I finish some of the pieces I was working on before I went around to galleries.]]>
On the way to Hudson we stopped at The Rhinebeck Artist's Shop to put Suzan Frecon's small painting on paper in to be framed. When we got to Hudson we went to Talbert and Arnig to buy a few things and then to Pamela Salisbury Gallery to see Elliot Green and Judith Pfaff's work. The to America's greatest Eye Glasses for me to pick out some glasses. We took up some extra time by going to antiques stores to look for some outdoor furniture to put into the new frame house sculpture in our yard. After that we went to Donna's opening. On the way home we went to Fortune in Tivoli to buy ice cream. We got lunch to go at bar restaurant, also in Tivoli. It tooke a while for our fish and chips to be done so I talked with the bar tender for a bit. It turned out that his name is Gerard Hurley and he had made a couple of films. That night I watched "The Pier", written, directed and acted in by Hurley. I like it very much. Left to Right - Catherine Murphy, Suzanne Delehanty, and Donna Dennis.]]>

Doris came over for tea. When Cathy was painting and was I sculpting in a park near here, Doris came up to Cathy and asked if she was in the Whitney Annual. Quite a surprising question for jersey City. That was about 6 months prior.,Original entry title: Doris Muller 1 11 74]]>
