Selected by Vassar College's "ModFest" in 2010.]]> In November 1990 I had a serious asthma attack. I passed out and Cathy called 911. Our house is set back from the road so Cathy (Murphy) went to the end of our driveway and flagged the ambulance as they were starting to pass by our house. The EMTs couldn't revive me at the house so they took me to the ambulance and off to St. Francis Hospital. Our tenant, Roberta Crossly drove with Cathy behind the ambulance. Cathy was highly upset and because the ambulance was driving so slowly she was afraid I had died. It turned out they were going slowly so they could try and revive me on the way. The first doctor on call in the emergency room couldn't revive me so they called the second doctor on call, who luckily was a pulmonary specialist. He did revive me and inserted a ventilator to keep me breathing. Dr. Forst told Cathy that there was about a thirty seconds to a minute window left to revive me. He also told her that I could have suffered brain damage from being unconscious so long and might not even know who I am. Cathy was able to get in touch with Barbara Page who met her at the hospital and was a great support for Cathy. In the morning I awoke. I mouthed (as best as I could) I love you, to Cathy and the nurse asked if I wanted a pad and paper, I did. The first thing I wrote was, "Take my picture!), Cathy know immediately that my brain was fine, at least back to my normal. I wanted to see what I looked like with tubes attached to me. Cathy called Dixie Sheridan at about 6:00am who came to the hospital and took photographs of me. They are sad images and Cathy has never looked at them. Dr. Forst became my pulmonary doctor until his until his untimely death in 2011. I was moved after a few days from intensive care into an interim section of the hospital. There was a phone in that room, which I used , for one thing, to arrange to have my classes covered at Vassar. It was nearing the end of the term so this was essential. I was able to arrange for Joe Smith to teach my classes for the remainder of the term. When Cathy realized i was making business calls so soon she asked the nurses to remove the phone. While in the hospital I did drawings By the time I was released I needed a second wheelchair to carry all my stuff, art supplies, books, magazines, etc. The phone messages included here are some from concerned friends who couldn't reach Cathy directly. Every once and a while we have to get new mattresses for that building because they get ruined by mice. *Roberta Crosley who was our tenant for about 12 years would call the little house up back a Poustinia, which she told us was polish for a retreat.]]> He, obviously, delivered a package to us.]]> They Mowed]]> We ran into Ethan in Chelsea. Lunch. After everone arrived and we visited for a bit we moved inside for lunch. We had corn soup (with custini,smoked salmon, caviar, and chive on top), nest was marinated sweet and sour fish (a recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi's Jerusalem) For desert we had Damp Ginger bread with peaches and whipped cream. The conversation included, artist's satisfaction or disatisfaction with their own work after it was completed, the nature of narrative and story (in general as well as in someof our works), critics and their relationship to what an artist says about their work and instances where a clash has led to facing off, etc. See Last entry]]> Charlie has come back after being away for 3 weeks. He was working on a project at the Kohler factory for an artist. He got here today after we had left to go to the dentist, so while we were gone he dismantled Catherine's (Murphy) setup for her "Becalmed" painting. After we got back we all had lunch, put away the groceries, worked on a couple of other things, and now we're working on the site.]]> When Charlie got here this morning, he did his usual first things. Then we got right to doing this. On the 28th and the 25th of July I forgot to take Charlie's photographs, which really annoys me. On both those days, whatever else we did, we worked on the site, getting ready to launch it, which I was able to do on the 1st of August. Today will be divided between working on the site, Charlie painting the bannisters, and possibly setting up for Catherine (Murphy).]]> Darren and Jean Jean continued work on the rock wall in front of the dutch barn. Every day people stop by to admire their work. So, I left a bunch of clues on the kitchen table (see upper left of photo). L-R Crumpled paper towel - for dumping the trash and bringing the barrels up. Bag of coffee - for brewing coffee. Plastic containers - for organizing the plastic containers and emptying the diswasher. Bay Leaf - for moving the bay leaf plant back where it belongs, and rolling up the hose near the bay leaf plant. Empty can with water in it - for the dehumidifier down in the basement. A piece of charcoal - for putting away the barbecue and the bag of charcoal. When that was all done, Charlie set up for working on the site, which we are now doing.]]> Charlie got here early because he had to leave early to get to his other job. On the way, he went to the supermarket and to Rhinebeck Artist's Shop to pick up some stuff for us. He set up for Cathy's (Murphy) painting at the pond. Charlie was also working on entering captions on the portfolio site (harryroseman.com) until he hit a glitch, which a week later hasn't been solved.]]> Charlie and I are working on the site, trying for the first time to enter data on this site. This morning, we went to Vassar and met with Joanna DiPasquale and Amy Laughlin and worked on the site towards a launch, hopefully early in July. We got home for lunch and I cooked fried onions and chicken livers on toast for Charlie and I. Catherine (Murphy) had already made a salad for herself. After lunch, Charlie helped Catherine set up for her pond and tube painting. Then he sprayed some plants with deer repellent, to keep from being eaten. And now, here we are trying to get this info on the site.]]> Charlie came to work]]> Charlie came to work and did various things. His lunch today consisted of chicken with almonds and green olives, with a side of sliced glazed carrots. Cathy (Murphy) and I had this for dinner the night before, and so Charlie got to have it for lunch and we had sandwiches.
