We got to the opening about 25 minutes before it ended. The opening was from 6 to 8, and dinner started at 8:00 PM. Both Arlene Schechet and Merlin James had openings that night at Sikkema Jenkins. Merlin had invited us for dinner. The lecture took place in Taylor 203 (pictured). This photograph was taken before the lecture. See the following two entries.]]> Simon Taylor]]> 2006-05-13 Simon Taylor, Simon is a student of mine at Vassar and came to work for us.]]> Simon came to work]]> Simon came over to work with Ben (Keddy) and myself to put everything back into the barn (see Benjamin Keddy same date as this post).]]> Simon got here at 10am this morning and since Charlie(Smith) was delayed, I took Simon through things Charlie does. Charlie is leaving because he has to many jobs and Simon is going to be our new assistant. Charlie got here at 10:20am, Charlie and Simon continued work not he surveillance cameras which are being set up for Catherine(Murphy's drawing). After which we had lunch and now we are working on the site. Simon is handling the interface. Charlie is helping him figure it out and I(Roseman, Harry) am dictating the captions. See next entry.,Artist Assistant, transition]]> This was Simon's first day working for us. He came over last week on Sunday for us to meet him and for him to meet us. Today he and Charlie (Smith) were both here so that Simon could get used to the lay of the land and Charlie could be helpful in the transition from him to Simon (see last entry). Simon didn't get here until 1:30 because he was working at one of his other jobs. Soon after he got here Simon and I and Ben (Busch) went up to Cathy's (Catherine Murphy) studio so that Ben could see the new paintings that are done, and for me to show Simon where Cathy's studio was. While we were up there I thought it was a good idea to show Simon Charlie's construction for Cathy's book painting. After that, Charlie and Simon went over to the Dutch Barn Studio to clean up some of the bat guano. Then they did some stuff outside. And now, here we are working on the site. Charlie is typing. I am talking. Simon is observing.]]> We worked on the site and some other stuff.]]> Simon got here at 11:00am instead of 10:00 becauser he overslept, which was fine since I had much to do this morning anyway before he got here. I didn't get up until 8:30am (which is very unusual for me), because I didn't get home from the hospital until after 2:30am (see Visitors, same date, Peter Charlap, and EMT Crew (the 25th). Also see Visitors, Christmas Dinner (the 24th). Simon helped me finish cleaning up from dinner last night and he discarded the basket full of bloody paper towels, and my blood drenched slippers. He also recorded some phone messages off the phone. Now we are writing this.]]> We spent most of the day putting up the Christmas tree.]]> After his usual morning chores Simon worked with Cathy ordering some things online for me for Christmas. After lunch Simon and I worked on the book of Cathy's (Murphy) Working Drawings, that I am putting together for her for Christmas.]]> In the afternoon I went to school for a going away party for Joanna DePasquale who is changing jobs. Then I got to the Art Department meeting about half way through.]]> We worked on the book of Catherine's working drawing for a Christmas present.]]> Simon got here a bit later than usual, because I asked him to pick up a maintenance cartridge for my printer. It turned out we had to order it online, which we just did about 30 seconds ago. After doing his usual chores, we set up my laptop and worked on uploading images from my camera and my phone. As well as uploading a small amount of recorded messages from my phone. By that time it was lunch time. We are now back entering data on the chronicle site.]]> Simon stopped on his way over at the supermarket to get some waters. Then he did his regular stuff. We spent the morning in Cathy's (Murphy) studio figuring out sizes for new paintings and helping her set up for a new drawing ( slippers in a box ). Then we had lunch and now we are sitting in front of you.]]> After he did his regular stuff, Simon and I went over to school to make a box for Cathy's (Murphy) new drawing. While Simon was finishing the box I went off to Adam's Fairacre Farms to do some shopping. We ate lunch soon after returning (we had gotten sandwiches at Adams.) And then Simon shoveled a path up to Cathy's studio.]]> Simon did a number of things that day, he ( and Darren) moved the table from the patio into the garage. He vacuumed in my Dutch Barn Studio because I thought i was expecting business company the next day, but it turned out to be the next week. He also used the leaf blower to blow the leaves off the patio. There was some other stuff, but I can't remember at this point what they might have been.]]> Simon did various things while he was here.]]> Simon came to work.]]> Simon stopped at the supermarket on the way here to get some stuff we needed. When he got here he first did his regular chores. The three of us (Catherine, Me, and Simon) spent a few hours cleaning out my closet. I kept putting off doing this because I hate doing this. Cathy (Murphy) is at the beginning of working out a new idea for a new painting and needed transparent garbage bags full of clothes and figured we would be ditching some of my clothes from the closet. Simon sharpened some pencils before we had lunch. After lunch Simon Vacuumed my studio in the Dutch Barn and removed the plastic coverings. Emily Harvey is coming over on Sunday and I plan on showing her the studio. When that was done we got to work here on the site.]]> It's 10:52 am, and since Simon gets here at 10, we haven't accomplished that much yet. So far he has done his regular morning chores, including making coffee, which I'm drinking right now. Clearly we are also working right now on this site. Our plans for today are not settled, but I did ask Simon to throw away the bat that died in my Dutch Barn Studio. The reason I am waiting for that to be done until after lunch is because that's when animal control opens.]]> I called Simon and asked if he was available to come over for a couple of hours because Tim Sheesley was coming to pick up his Litho Stones. Because they are rather heavy I thought Tim could use Simon's help. So Simon came over, the stones were moved, and he went home.]]> I called Simon when he was on his way here and asked him to stop by the supermarket, and get paper towels and bottled water. Right now we are working on this site. Billy Finn called a little while ago to see if Cathy (Murphy) and I could meet him and Arthur for lunch. They are on there way to Pittsfield from NYC. Simon is going to have leftover Mushroom Risotto for lunch (earlier). When Cathy and I are out meeting Billy and Arthur, Simon is going to work on recording messages from our phone.]]> When Simon first got here he did his usual stuff. Then he sharpened pencils for Catherine (Murphy). After which he recorded phone messages. The phone messages will be put in appropriate places on this site.]]> Simon and I are sitting at my computer entering data onto this website. It is too early to know if we will spend the whole day doing this or move on to other things.]]> When Simon got here I was out doing errands, so he did some stuff on his own and sharpened pencils. When I got back, we took the packages out of the car and ate lunch. Now we are working on this site. In a little while he is going to go out back and do some work with Cathy, after which we will do some more work on the site.]]> Simon dragged a staircase, we had stored in the far end of the chicken coop and brought it into Cathy's (Murphy) Studio. Then he helped set it up in order for Cathy to make some drawings for a painting she is thinking about. We also mounted drawing paper on a board and helped her set up for a drawing for another painting. Which she decided in the end not to do.]]>
